Sizing Up Your Options

If I were your nutritionist and you said you wanted to change your weight…

I’d say, wait.

Pick another goal.

Let’s talk about the weight of your soul, about Growing Into Your Soul.

Can we try that on for size?

And speaking of numbers...

May God teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. Psalm 90:12

This is not a one-size-fits-all life by any stretch of the imagination. This is not about the world's definitions of "loss" and "gain."

We’ve got to stop squeezing into the mold (and it is toxic!) of appearance.

We've got to reject any shaping of ourselves which may be unbecoming of our Unique Design.

We’ve got to acknowledge that the standards of others don’t fit - don’t even come close to fitting - our inner and outer potential for True Beauty.

The weight is the wait is the “Wait...What?” moment in life that slows us, stops us, forces us to a screeching halt.

Wait. Who are you again, and what are you doing here? How did you get into this head-space, this heart space, this place?

Are we gaining hearts of wisdom, or collecting the clutter of confusion?

Let’s do a quick check of your vital signs to make sure that vitality exists in your life. (And that IS vital!) Have you assessed which of your vital signs are off?

Let's examine your blood-work. If your blood-work shows values that are out of range, your body's chemistry is imbalanced.

The life-stream flowing inside of you has a need for peace and balance. Do you value knowing that?

Homeostasis is the body’s preferential place of balance, and we can either support that or make a mess of it.

But it certainly doesn’t take blood-work to prove that something is "off."

It’s not processed food that causes irreversible damage. It’s unprocessed emotion.

We need food-making skills and cooking skills, sure, but coping skills are of equal urgency.

It may not be the renewal of that supplement or that gym membership. It may be another renewal entirely.

Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Romans 12:2

Wait. How much evidence do you need before you give yourself permission to attend to this emergency?

And in the meantime...are you comparing your weight to...someone else's?

Since when does comparing anything - weight, shoe size, waist size, size of earlobes - benefit anyone?

Why not celebrate that we DO have weight (which means we have mass which means we have gravity) which means,

"Hey! We must be here on this Earth!"

Why not celebrate my shoes (which mean that I have feet) and I've got a waist to gather me together!

Can we quit wasting time with the fuzzy math of comparison and the insignificant calculations of the sizing-up of critics?

And whether my earlobes are unattached or attached, let me remain detached to the concern of it all.

Because we can use all of the man-made scales in the world to attempt to measure our inadequacies, but scales measure weight and matter and gravity - and the gravity of the situation is that You Matter. I Matter. We Matter.

The filter of the world has contorted and distorted and disordered the fundamentals.

Why are loud (erroneous) voices taking the fun out of our fundamentals? Nutrition and nourishment are fundamental.

Isn’t eating natural, normal and a part of living and life?

Are we really going to give a piece of our eating, our bodies, or our choices to spoilers who wish to chew us up and spit us out?

A calorie is merely a unit of energy, People. And we might be turning into a low-energy-people.

Where’s our get-up-and-go for the more important things of this life?

Where's our energy to count our gratitudes instead of our calories?

Where could we place all the energy we are wasting over grams and pounds?

And know this...clothing that binds us does not shape us. It’s just another squeezing into something which distorts.

How do we hide our truth? Let us count the ways...

Time and experiences and relationships and connections shape us. This is the real food of life, the soul-food we're after.

A shapely life is having the ability to both give and receive nourishment. A shapely life is a soft place to comfort both others and ourselves.

Not the push-up bra or the compulsive push-ups but the ability to push-up-and-out-of-the-funk that can stifle and suffocate our breath, our breathing, our spirit.

Nothing to “cut out” here but all the negativity.

Nothing to “reduce” right now but all those rules based on the world’s filter. (Beware of THIS filtered beverage!)

What about “raw” honesty, the “whole” story and “clean” living, meaning permission to begin again, a fresh start to each day?

You can weigh and measure every morsel of food, or you can weigh and measure your options in life to determine that which supports your becoming. Becoming. That word has change built right into it, not “turning back time” or “avoiding change” or "changing into someone else," but "Coming to Be."

Becoming is turning into Truth...the Truth of who you already are and who you are created to be.

Wait for it.
