Can you feel it?

The right chemistry, first thing in the morning, makes all the difference.

It's wonderful to start each day with "smoothie" of sorts;

something to:

smooth over the rough edges of jagged thoughts;

smooth bitter judgments and add the flavors of compassion;

smooth memories of highs and lows to bring balance and perspective;

and smooth over complaints with remembrances of gratitude.

Starting with good nourishment first thing in the morning requires intention, yes,

but the benefits are undeniable.

By adding a base of serenity and pause to the recipe below,

any reactions turn into responses (for self and others) and promise to flow more smoothly, all day long.

A Morning Smoothie Recipe, Tried and True:

  1. Sit. Before reaching for phone or anything else, reach and grasp hands together. Close eyes. Breathe. Offer lovingkindness to others and to self. Pray. Offer gratitudes for the gift of Being. Alive. Today.

  2. Still. Before moving, stay still. Open eyes and receive light; open ears and perceive sounds; open nose to aromas. Open hands and delight in the ability to touch and feel. Open mind and heart to the day ahead, willing to offer and receive without judgment. Open mouth to say, "Thank You," as first words.

  3. Stretch. Stretch mind and heart to the furthest expanse possible. Commit to the enhancers of positivity, faith, hope and love. Choose nourishing words before any others: incorporate inspiring readings, sacred writings, affirming words, quotes of resilience, and verses of promise, truth and encouragement.

  4. Stay. Allow for feelings of contentment, compassion, curiosity, creativity, and whatever may come.

  5. Stir. Let the stirring swirl within until the energy propels you forward into your day.

  6. Serve. Pour out and share the energy, hope and love. And remember: pour in before pouring out.

*Mix and match ingredients for individual needs, tastes and preferences.

*If steps are missed, simply try again the next morning, God-willing.

*This recipe yields servings for unlimited recipients.

*Results are expected to vary over time. Enjoy!
